Do I Need Drug Detox and Rehab Program?
While many people may use drugs occasionally or recreationally at parties or events, consistent drug use is often a sign of addiction.
When a person becomes addicted to a drug, their brain chemistry changes. Drugs like OxyContin, meth, and cocaine flood the brain with chemicals like dopamine. Dopamine is a necessary and natural chemical that gives us feelings of joy and euphoria while also motivating us. Drugs provide the brain with a quick, intense dose of dopamine that decreases their natural dopamine production. Over time, this causes the brain to stop producing dopamine and other necessary chemicals. When this happens, the brain relies on drugs for chemical processes and experiences intense withdrawal when drugs leave the bloodstream.
Withdrawal is one of the telltale signs that recreational drug use has become an addiction. Common withdrawal symptoms include:
- Drug cravings
- Mood swings
- Disturbed sleep
- Preoccupation with drugs
- Lying to loved ones
- Irritability
- Anger
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Reckless behavior
- Other drug-seeking behavior
While each family of drugs comes with specific withdrawal symptoms, the above list can help loved ones gauge if their family member is struggling. Withdrawal symptoms can make quitting cold turkey dangerous. During withdrawal, willpower is often not enough to keep someone from reusing, using other drugs, or overdosing. Unfortunately, the number of overdoses and overdose-related deaths in Colorado is rising.
Our Three-Step Detox and Drug Addiction Treatment Program
Northpoint Colorado focuses on three steps for successful addiction recovery: cleanse, understand, and apply. Through our various inpatient and outpatient programs, patients experience individualized care to help them safely detox, address addiction triggers, and integrate sobriety into their daily lives.
Begin with Drug Detox
During our inpatient detox programs, patients receive 27/4 monitoring in comfortable rooms. During this time, our staff monitors vital signs, provides necessary nutrients and hydration. They also provide patients with medically assisted detox medications to ease withdrawal symptoms and prevent complications.
Build an Understanding Through Inpatient Rehab
In this inpatient program, patients work with cognitive-behavioral therapists to uncover the roots of their addiction. For many, addiction stems from unresolved trauma, prolonged stress, and undiagnosed co-occurring disorders. Our dual diagnosis treatment addresses mental health disorders, treating anxiety and depression alongside addiction.
Applying Tools in the Real World Through Outpatient Rehab
Some drug rehab patients may begin in our outpatient programs. These programs are suited for people with busy school, work, and home lives. They are also best for those who have strong support systems in a safe home without access to drugs or alcohol.
For other patients, our IOP and PHP programs come after their first three weeks of inpatient rehab. These programs require daily clinic visits for therapy, 12-step programs, nutrition counseling, and support. At the end of the day, patients return home to sleep. These programs are a great way to integrate tools from recovery into home life.
